Art and the Text

Literate Art

Using a text to generate detail is a mimetic technique. Due to the highly developed nature of language, and the close association of language and meaning, however, it is often taken as a "different" and "special" form. In particular, the existence of puns, jokes, and "turns of phrase" are normally associated with literature, though they are possible in all of the arts if the people on both sides of the "discussion" know the language.
