The history and culture of a group are extremely rich pattern stores for the creation of elements. It includes the symbolic systems of the group, their mythology, literature, material wealth, and shared sense of history. It includes the political and ideological milieu in which the participants live, including ideas of foreigners, and the group's self image. It includes the people, the places and the objects that are important to the group, and any of these elements can be used to develop depth within a design. They can be pulled apart and reconstructed, mirrored, lambasted or admired.
