Scenographic Design

The Stage and Experiential Design

Scenographic design, the creation of scenes, creates patterns of environments that change over time. The methodology is that of storytelling or ritual in play. The scenographic designer develops a design by pacing the experience of the environments, and the accumulation of ideas over time. They develop patterns in the user's level of tension. They play on anticipation; the need to know what is around that corner, the need to know what that thing is they can almost see, the need to know if the man will be strangled or thrown out the airlock. They draw the user forward as the user tries to figure out the strange, and often fantastic environments they have entered.
