Scent

Design for scent is often marginalised to the extremes of "good" scents and "bad" odours which are encouraged and eliminated respectively. The associations which users have with scents are extremely strong, and designers have to be careful to prevent extreme negative reactions. This is normally the extent to which designers concern themselves with scent. The scents of an area are strongly affected by ventilation and air flow, temperature, humidity and materials.
