Hierarchies

Prioritisation

Hierarchies imply that elements at the top of the hierarchy are more important than those below them. The creator is able to prioritise their development of the environment according to "overriding" ideas. Users are similarly able to prioritise their exploration of the environment. They can concentrate on understanding higher-level elements before attempting to understand lower-level elements, and then use their understanding of the higher levels to guide them through the lower levels.

Special consideration of perceptual weight as a criteria for design. The greater the weight of an element the more likely is it that the user will focus on it first. Visual Art, the path of the eye
